I'm a writer, teacher, editor and sometime bookseller.

Here's some media coverage of me and my work. Here are some nice things people have said about me.

I have an MFA in fiction, a PhD in narrative nonfiction, and I identify—professionally and spiritually—as an essayist. I've taught creative writing at Northwestern University, Cornell College, StoryStudio Chicago, and The Loft Literary Center.

I used to blog, back before you were born. I spent way too much time on Twitter for something like 15 years, until new leadership helped me break that addiction. This bio will be the first to hear about it if I ever learn to take decent pictures for Instagram or resurrect my newsletter.
I live in Chicago with my husband and our weird little dog.
